You may think that it’s hard to be friends with a person that acts, looks, or thinks differently than you do. But, differences should never stop you from making new friends – you have no idea what kind of awesome friendships you might be missing out on. Making friends with someone who is different from you can be very rewarding, but imagine if that friend is a whole other species! This dog and Pekin duck are best friends, and they’re taking the internet by storm…
Pam Ishiguro has not one, but seven ducks in her flock. For the most part, the ducks keep to themselves, preferring to socialize with the other ducks. There’s nothing wrong with that; it’s quite normal, in fact. But, one of her ducks, four-year-old Rudy, has a different idea about friendship. He has decided to make friends with Barclay, Pam’s Golden Retriever.
Of course, their relationship is amazing in its uniqueness. It’s not every day that a dog and duck become inseparable best buddies. But, it’s even more astounding when you consider the fact that Golden Retrievers were originally bred to retrieve animals from the water; specifically, ducks. Barclay is as gentle as they come, however, and would never consider harming his best friend in that way. That doesn’t mean that playtime doesn’t get a little rough on occasion. Pam comments on their adorable friendship:
“The animals are much like my two boys – they have a love-hate relationship,” Pam says. “When they are together, somebody is always chasing or jumping on someone else, but when they are apart, they’re always calling for each other.”
