It’s hard to believe that it’s been 25 years since the release of the Disney animated movie, “Beauty and the Beast”. With all of the hype surrounding the new live-action version of the film, there are plenty of us who have som many wonderful memories of the release of the first movie. I loved Belle and the Beast, but of course, we were all delighted with Chip and Mrs. Potts. Mrs. Potts was voiced by Angela Lansbury and in this video, she sings an iconic song from the movie.
While a majority of people may remember Angela Lansbury as Jessica Fetcher on the long-running television series, “Murder She Wrote”, she will forever be Mrs. Potts for me. Sure, Jessica Fletcher, the mystery writer and amateur murder sleuth, played a memorable and culturally important role, but Mrs. Potts brings back warm childhood memories. I can’t think of anyone who could have possibly voiced the role better.
So, when Angela Lansbury was invited to sing the song, “Tale As Old As Time” at the 25th-anniversary celebration of the release of the original animated film, fans new and old were delighted to hear one of their favorite songs performed by the woman who sang it first, and best. Angela Lansbury may be 90-year-old, but she still has the charisma and showmanship that helped her maintain a long, varied, and prolific career. Watching this video, it appears that she could still do nearly anything in entertainment and do it beautifully.
The actual performance is atmospheric and heartwarming, and it’s no surprise that many of the audience have tears in their eyes by the end. Lansbury manages to re-create a moment that may have been pushed back into our deeper memories, and recreate the emotions.
Please like and share the wonderful performance!
